Keeping Things in Check

Meet Jasmine, the newest, creepiest most magical member of our family – at least for the month of December, that is. She showed up last week and has been keeping a close eye on the youngest member of our family. For those of you who haven’t heard of “The Elf on the Shelf”, here’s the deal: she hangs out here during the day, then flies home to Santa each night and basically gives him the scoop…you know, the naughty or nice report. Think of her as a parents’ best friend, she keeps things in check – which I must admit, is nothing short of awesome. Okay, yes, perhaps it sounds a touch manipulative and self-serving, but wait a minute, when it comes right down to it, it’s no different than Santa – remember this line ? “he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake…” Yeah, you do. Talk about creepy! Well guess what? We’re playing this card, the same way our parents and grandparents played it. And we all turned out okay, right?! Right. And more importantly, She’s digging this new tradition, she has fun running around each morning, shouting “Jasmine, Jasmine where are you?!” And for the moment, Jasmine is eliciting a little more cooperation around our place. For those of you who have had a two-year-old in the house…you get it. And this weekend, I’ve got my fingers crossed that Jasmine is going to work a little overtime. I’m off to Seattle on a girls’ weekend, leaving husband and wee one here. Alone. Word on the street is that there’s going to be a BIG, all over mess, and a giant blanket fort – and I saw the massive tub of chocolate ice cream in the freezer. Have fun you two…and remember, Jasmine’s got her eye on you… 🙂 xo
